FBA vs. FBM: where does Rapid fit?

FBA and FBM describe who fulfills the customer order. A prep center supports the work before inventory enters FBA. A 3PL can also fulfill your FBM orders.

Decision FBA + Rapid prep FBM + Rapid fulfillment
Who ships to customers? Amazon, after receiving your prepared stock. Rapid, from the agreed warehouse inventory.
Rapid’s role Receive, inspect, label, package and forward inventory. Store, pick, pack, dispatch and return shipment information.
Inventory planning Plan reserve stock and replenishment into Amazon. Plan stock allocation and available quantities for merchant-fulfilled offers.
Costs to compare Prep, materials, storage and inbound transport, plus Amazon’s applicable fees. Receiving, storage, pick and pack, materials, postage and agreed additional services.
Operational focus Preparation accuracy and replenishment timing. Order handling, dispatch, tracking and delivery promises.

Using both? Build a hybrid plan: send selected inventory to FBA while keeping reserve stock and FBM inventory with Rapid. Define stock allocation and replenishment triggers before orders start flowing.

A 3PL arrangement does not automatically qualify FBM offers for Prime. Amazon controls program eligibility, inventory acceptance and account performance requirements.

Answers before you switch

Amazon fulfillment FAQs.

Practical answers about prep, outsourced fulfillment, costs and the handoff to Rapid.

Talk through my requirements →
What are Amazon fulfillment services?

Amazon fulfillment services cover receiving, storing, preparing and shipping inventory used for Amazon sales. With FBA, Amazon ships customer orders after receiving prepared inventory. With FBM, the seller or a third-party logistics provider ships orders directly to customers. Rapid supports FBA prep and FBM fulfillment.

What is the difference between FBA prep and FBM fulfillment?

FBA prep gets products ready to enter Amazon’s fulfillment network, including labeling, packaging and shipment preparation. FBM fulfillment handles individual customer orders outside that network. Rapid can prepare inventory for FBA and pick, pack and ship FBM orders under an agreed service plan.

Does Amazon still offer FBA prep and labeling in the US?

No. Amazon ended prep and item labeling services for US FBA shipments on January 1, 2026. Sellers need to arrange required preparation and labeling before inventory reaches FBA, either themselves, through their supplier or through a third-party prep provider.

Can I use FBA and FBM at the same time?

Yes. Sellers can use both models across their catalog or offers. A hybrid plan may use FBA for selected products while keeping other stock with a 3PL for FBM orders and future replenishment. Inventory allocation and shipping promises need to match the setup in Seller Central.

Can Rapid apply FNSKU labels and prepare bundles?

Rapid offers product labeling, barcode application, kitting and multi-pack assembly. Share your SKU list, required Amazon barcode labels, bundle configuration and packaging instructions so the correct preparation work can be quoted and approved before receiving.

Can Rapid fulfill Amazon and Shopify orders?

Rapid supports Amazon seller fulfillment and Shopify fulfillment. During onboarding, review the integrations, SKU mapping, inventory allocation and tracking workflows needed for each channel. Confirm which orders draw from shared stock and which inventory is reserved for FBA replenishment.

How much do Amazon prep and fulfillment services cost?

Pricing depends on receiving volume, storage, preparation tasks, SKU count, order volume, items per order, packaging and shipping destinations. FBA preparation and forwarding are different cost categories from FBM pick and pack. Request an itemized quote that separates warehouse charges, materials, transport and Amazon’s own fees.

How quickly can Rapid prepare or ship my orders?

Turnaround depends on the work required, inventory readiness, order cutoff and agreed service plan. Confirm FBA prep timing and FBM dispatch timing separately. Warehouse dispatch does not guarantee a carrier delivery date or an Amazon receiving date.

Does using a 3PL make my FBM offers Prime eligible?

No. Hiring a 3PL does not automatically make an FBM offer eligible for Prime. Seller Fulfilled Prime has separate Amazon requirements and eligibility rules. Confirm any program requirements directly with Amazon before making a Prime delivery promise.

Can Rapid support supplement and beauty brands on Amazon?

Rapid supports supplement, wellness, skincare and beauty fulfillment. Provide your product details, shelf-life information, packaging requirements and any lot or expiration handling needs for review. Product approval, testing documentation and Amazon listing eligibility remain separate from warehouse fulfillment.

Can international sellers send inventory to Rapid?

International sellers can discuss sending inventory to a US warehouse for prep, storage and onward fulfillment. Before shipping, agree receiving instructions, importer-of-record responsibility, customs arrangements, duties and inbound delivery requirements. Warehouse receiving is separate from customs clearance.

Can Rapid handle returns or Amazon removal inventory?

Return-handling requirements can be included in your service scope. For Amazon removal orders, confirm acceptance, receiving fees, inspection criteria and the process for restocking, rework or disposal before creating the removal order. Inventory should only return to sellable stock after the agreed checks.
